Review: Legendary (Caraval #2) by Stephanie Garber

36329818Summary from Goodreads:

A heart to protect. A debt to repay. A game to win.

After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister Scarlett from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn’t yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.

The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more—and into the path of the murderous heir to the throne, a doomed love story, and a web of secrets…including her sister's. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice. But now the game is asking for more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she’ll lose everything she cares about—maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval...the games have only just begun.

What I Liked:

Tella. I was unsure about Tella as the new narrator going in because I liked Scaclet a lot in book one. So, I was completely suprised at how much I came to love Tella. I could say that I like them equally but I would be lying, Tella is badass female main character! The side characters were interesting as well, Jacks, Julian, Dante, and others.

Romance. I'm usually not a huge fan of many romance, ya or adult, but Garber once again made me love another couple. I really enjoyed Scarlet/Julian from book one and it happened it again in the second book with Tella. Garber is able to develop the chemistry between two characters so well that it never feels rushed.

Audiobook. I listened to the first book on audio as well on audio and loved that they brought back the same audiobook narrator! Rebecca Soler does such a great job with the narration.

Writing/Imagery. Once again Garber does not disappoint with her writing. I adore how she writes, how lyrical and beautiful it is. She uses her words to weave great imagery.

Plot/World Building. Garber just keeps getting better with each book! I really enjoyed how she expanded the world and added in the mythology of the Fates. It added a great fantastical element to the novel. The world and Caraval were so well-written that I did not want it to end.

What I Disliked:

The lack of Scarlet/Julian. I was a huge fan of book one, the romance and the main character, so it was disappointing when we did not get very much of them. However, I'm hoping the third book will possibly have the POVs of both sisters. I would have liked it with this book but I still loved Tella's voice. :)
