Review: Empire of Storms (#5) by Sarah J. Maas

 Summary from Goodreads:

The long path to the throne has only just begun for Aelin Galathynius. Loyalties have been broken and bought, friends have been lost and gained, and those who possess magic find themselves at odds with those who don't.

As the kingdoms of Erilea fracture around her, enemies must become allies if Aelin is to keep those she loves from falling to the dark forces poised to claim her world. With war looming on all horizons, the only chance for salvation lies in a desperate quest that may mark the end of everything Aelin holds dear.

Aelin's journey from assassin to queen has entranced millions across the globe, and this fifth installment will leave fans breathless. Will Aelin succeed in keeping her world from splintering, or will it all come crashing down?

My Review:

I have a love/hate relationship with this series, it is mainly love but sometimes there are some things I dislike about it. Mainly, the pacing, the romance, and some of the confusing aspects.

The main issue I faced with this addition to the series was the romance and the sexual content. I was rooting for a lot of the couples to come together but I'm not a fan overly sexual scenes and there were a few throughout. However, there were quite a few romances going on and I enjoyed reading about them.

It takes patience to make it through this 600 plus paged fantasy because of the constantly changing point of views and all of the history/races and plot points thrown at the reader. I felt that the pacing was slow in the middle and I nearly put it down around page 400.

The main reason I decided to read this, even if it was stressful at parts is the characters I've come to love, and I enjoyed the way the story progressed. The chapters that were not slow or hard to read were from the point of view of Manon and Elide, they were amazing strong female characters!

I recommend you check out this series, it has really transformed into a great fantasy and the characters are worth the time it takes to read it.

My Rating:

4 Stars Out of 5 Stars
