Review: The Mime Order (The Bone Season #2) by Samantha Shannon
Summary from Goodreads:
Paige Mahoney has escaped the brutal prison camp of Sheol I, but her problems have only just begun: many of the survivors are missing and she is the most wanted person in London...
As Scion turns its all-seeing eye on the dreamwalker, the mime-lords and mime-queens of the city's gangs are invited to a rare meeting of the Unnatural Assembly. Jaxon Hall and his Seven Seals prepare to take centre stage, but there are bitter fault lines running through the clairvoyant community and dark secrets around every corner. Then the Rephaim begin crawling out from the shadows. But where is Warden? Paige must keep moving, from Seven Dials to Grub Street to the secret catacombs of Camden, until the fate of the underworld can be decided.
I've been on a roll with reading some novels that have been on my TBR for years and The Mime Order was near the top of it.
The fact that I read The Bone Season so long ago did not help me with reading this because it was a confusing world to begin with. However, once I got back into the swing of things and relearned terms (glossaries always help) I flew through it and it was an enjoyable read.
Paige once again was the main reason I keep reading this series, her great characterization and the interesting world she is apart of. The interesting structure of the society was better explored in the sequel and we were exposed to a new/old set of characters like Nick, Jaxon (who is super creepy) and others involved in the syndicate.
There was a bit more romance in this one but it was only a small part and did overwhelm the series. I'm enjoying how the main relationship is a slow burning one and not instalove.
I recommend checking out this series because it is unique and will keep you on your toes.
