Manga Review: Behind the Scenes!!, Vol. 1 by Bisco Hatori

25986987
Summary from Goodreads:

Ranmaru Kurisu comes from a family of hardy, rough-and-tumble fisher folk, and he sticks out at home like a delicate, artistic sore thumb. It’s given him a raging inferiority complex and a permanently pessimistic outlook. Now that he’s in college, he’s hoping to find a sense of belonging. But after a whole life of being left out, does he even know how to fit in?!

It’s two months into Ranmaru’s college career, and if he’s learned one thing, it’s that he’s really uncomfortable around other people. But when he stumbles into a zombie mob attack, he’s forced out of his comfort zone in the most dramatic way possible! Of course it’s just a movie shoot, but when he wakes up from his ignoble faint, he’s been whisked away behind the scenes with the Art Squad! Could this group of weirdos be what Ranmaru’s been looking for all his life?!

My Review:

I have not been reading or liking a lot of the new manga out these days but I decided to give Behind the Scenes a try because I adore the Ouran Host Club anime. (I'm planning on reading that manga series as well)

I knew what I was getting into, goofiness and over the top drama/comedy. It hit the spot with the comedy element and thoroughly enjoyed the volume beginning to end.

Once again the creator is doing a club storyline but this time it focuses on artists that create the costumes, props, and sets for films which is very interesting and unique.

Hatori does a great job introducing various characters and giving interesting personalities to all of them not just the main character.

The main character kind of reminds of Tohru from Fruits Baskets but to the extreme where he is accident prone and always thinks of others first, and his scenes are so hilarious.

I would recommend checking out this new manga series if you've enjoyed the Ouran Host Club from the same creator or want something quick and fun to read.

My Rating:

5 Stars Out of 5
